ADC polls: Govt seeks report on addl force requirement

Shillong, Jan 25: Deputy Commissioners of respective districts in Khasi and Jaintia Hills region have been asked to assess and submit reports on requirement of additional forces to conduct the upcoming autonomous district council (ADC) elections in Khasi and Jaintia Hills in a free and fair manner.

The elections to Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) will be held on February 21.

“We have entrusted the DCs to look into the matter because the state government is ready to provide additional forces for ensuring the peaceful conduct of the ADC polls,” deputy chief minister in-charge District Council Affairs (DCA) and Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong told reporters on Friday.

Asked, Tynsong said expenditure ceiling for each candidate has been fixed at Rs 5 lakh.
