Guwahati, Dec 12: Assam Commerce and Industry Minister Bimal Borah reviewed the state’s readiness for the Advantage Assam 2.0 Global Investors and Infrastructure Summit at a high-level meeting held at Loksewa Bhawan on Thursday.
The summit, scheduled for February 24 and 25, 2025, in Guwahati, will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended by Union Ministers, top industry leaders, and dignitaries.
The summit aims to position Assam as a top investment destination by showcasing its economic potential, infrastructure opportunities, and investor-friendly policies.
Over 7,500 young artists from Assam’s tea gardens will perform the traditional Jhubur dance in the presence of PM Modi, adding a cultural dimension to the event.
Dedicated sessions will spotlight sectors like transportation, railways, civil aviation, agriculture, industrial investment, and hydrocarbons.
Key infrastructure session on road transport system will be inaugurated by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, session on railway Infrastructure will be led by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, session on agriculture infrastructure is expected to be inaugurated by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and a session on civil aviation to focus on aviation infrastructure, with the Union Civil Aviation Minister leading the session.
Advantage Assam 2.0 builds upon the success of its first edition in 2018, which attracted ₹1 lakh crore in investment proposals. While the COVID-19 pandemic slowed momentum, the state has continued to secure investments, exceeding ₹39,000 crore in recent years.
Minister Bimal Borah emphasized that the summit reflects the transformative leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. “This initiative aims to further propel Assam’s robust growth trajectory, establishing the state as a profitable and lucrative investment hub,” said Borah.
International Delegations: Teams from Assam will visit Singapore, Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Dubai to promote the summit globally.
Events will be held in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata to engage domestic investors.
Assam’s decision to establish a semiconductor manufacturing facility has drawn significant interest from industry leaders, signaling the state’s entry into high-tech industries.
The summit will explore innovative uses of Bhutan’s water resources for irrigation and the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) to benefit farmers and communities in regions like the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stressed that the summit will be “pragmatic and theme-oriented,” focusing on tangible outcomes rather than extravagant displays. The event aims to consolidate Assam’s economic potential and highlight its readiness for large-scale industrial investments.
Advantage Assam 2.0 is set to create a robust platform for collaboration and innovation, leveraging Assam’s unique strengths to attract investments that will drive its growth trajectory in the coming years.
