Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is leaving for Japan on Sunday, while Industry Minister Bimal Borah met Anil Agarwal, chairman of Vedanta Resources, during a London roadshow to explore investment opportunities.
Sarma, at the forefront of Assam’s investment push, is leading a high-level delegation to Japan and South Korea as part of a roadshow organized by the Indian Embassy in Tokyo. This initiative, coinciding with Assam Week celebrations, aims to position the state as a prime investment destination by showcasing its strengths in education, industry, security, and agriculture.
Sarma is expected to stay in Japan until January 25, followed by a visit to Singapore.
Taking to social media, Sarma expressed his vision: “Indian Embassies are celebrating Assam Week to showcase the state’s rich heritage and its potential to become a leading state in India with concerted efforts in education, industry, security, and agriculture.”
His international engagements build on his earlier visit to Bhutan in December 2024, reinforcing the state’s commitment to fostering global economic partnerships.
Meanwhile, Industries & Commerce Minister Bimal Borah is spearheading Assam’s investment drive in the United Kingdom.
In London, he held discussions with Anil Agarwal, chairman of Vedanta Resources, one of the world’s largest natural resource conglomerates. The meeting focused on potential collaborations in sustainable resource management and industrial development in Assam.
Highlighting Assam’s rapid economic growth under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CM Sarma, Borah underscored the state’s investment-friendly policies, skilled workforce, and resource potential. He also invited Agarwal to attend the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit in February.
Agarwal, known for his philanthropic initiatives and emphasis on skill development, resonated with Assam’s vision for economic empowerment, entrepreneurship, and job creation. Borah also visited Space Scale White City and Imperial Innovation Hub in London to explore technological advancements that could benefit Assam’s industries.
Adding to Assam’s global push, Minister of Science, Technology & Climate Change, Keshab Mahanta, conducted successful roadshows in Malaysia and Thailand. Expressing optimism, he highlighted strong investor interest from corporate leaders, industry organizations, and prospective investors in Assam’s booming economic landscape.
With Advantage Assam 2.0 set to attract global business leaders, the Assam government’s international roadshows signal a bold push for economic transformation.
