Agitating GHADC staff to change protest venue

As per HC order, WG Hills SP holds meeting with Non-Gazetted Employees’

Tura, Sep 26: The agitating Non-Gazetted Employees’ Association (NGEA) of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) has decided to shift their venue of protest in order to abide by a directive from the Meghalaya High Court.

Informing this, West Garo Hills district police chief Abraham T Sangma on Thursday said he had asked NGEA leadership to search for an alternate location to continue their agitation.

“The NGEA leaders have accepted the court order and assured compliance,” Sangma said after holding a meeting with the association on Thursday.

Earlier, the court in response to a PIL filed in this regard directed the SP to take necessary steps within seven days to ensure that the GHADC premises be cleared of any such protests.

The court directive follows months of demonstrations by NGEA members over unresolved service-related grievances, including non-payment of salary for over 40 months, within the GHADC.

Confirming receipt of the order, NGEA spokesperson Brithen M Sangma said the association respects the court’s decision and will comply.

“We received the court order yesterday and we respect the decision of the court. We will now hold discussions within our group to decide on a new location where we can continue our agitation peacefully,” he said.

The district administration will closely monitor the situation to ensure smooth and peaceful implementation of the High Court’s directive in the days ahead.
