All-party meet on Railways soon: Govt

‘Members of civil society, NGOs to be part of all-party meetings’

Shillong, Apr 4: The all-party committee on Railways will soon invite all stakeholders including members of civil society organisations for their views on the issue, cabinet minister and government spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh told reporters on Friday.

“Meetings of the committee to be headed by the chief minister will commence very soon. The whole idea here is to allow for a space and a platform for diverse views,” he said.

The government will bring on board all stakeholders, including those against and in favour of railways, before taking a final call on the issue, he said.

According to indications that he has received, the first meeting of the committee would be held in April itself, he said.

Denying that the “all-party” committee will deal with only political parties, he said all stakeholders, including members of civil society and NGOs would be invited besides members of the state assembly and autonomous district councils.

However, he said, the government would not hold any discussion with other agencies.

“We will first seek the views within the state of Meghalaya. The process will continue where we will reach out to other agencies in due course of time,” he said.
