Shillong, Dec 29: The All Garo Hills Anganwadi Worker & Helpers Federation (AGHAWHF) has urged chief minister Conrad K Sangma to take urgent action to execute an official order on promotion of senior graduate anganwadi workers.
The order was in this regard was issued on 2 June 2023, according to the Federation.
The order, according to the Forum, laid guidelines pertaining to promotion of Senior Graduate Anganwadi Workers, appointment of contractual Lady Supervisors, and demand for first preference for in-service Senior Graduate Anganwadi Workers in promotions.
“The delay in fulfilling the memo’s directives has caused considerable distress among the workers, who have been serving diligently in the Anganwadi system for years,” said Forum president Monika D Sangma in a letter to the chief minister.
“This delay not only undermines the efforts of the workers but also creates a sense of frustration and demotivation among them,” she stated.
Alleging “lack of clear criteria for appointment of Lady Supervisors” has created a sense of injustice among the existing Anganwadi workers, she said, “Many of them believe that their years of service and experience in the field should be taken into account when considering candidates for supervisory roles.”
On the current process of appointing contractual supervisors, she said, “In-service Anganwadi workers, who are qualified and have demonstrated their commitment to the job, should be given the first preference for these positions.”
Further, Monika stated in the letter that the All Garo Hills Anganwadi Worker & Helpers Federation urged the government to prioritise in-service Senior Graduate Anganwadi Workers for promotions and appointments to supervisory roles.
