Around Rs 3,000 cr invested in youth-oriented schemes  

CM inaugurates school building, immigration check post, bridge at Dalu  

Shillong, June 18: Around 3,000 crore has been invested in education, sports and entrepreneurship through different schemes, which would help channelise positive energy of the youth in the state, said chief minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday.

He highlighted the government’s commitment to overall growth of the youth, emphasising the importance of education, sports, music, and entrepreneurship while inaugurating a newly constructed school building of Dalu Govt HS School in West Garo Hills.

The two-storey building was constructed under Mission Education Phase I, which was launched in 2021.

Ministers AT Mondal and Marcuise Marak, and MLAs Sanjay Sangma, Brening A Sangma and Sengchim Sangma also attended the programme.

During his visit to Dalu, the chief minister also inaugurated Dalu Immigration Check Post and a newly constructed Rs 11-crore bridge over Bakla river, which was damaged in 2023 floods.

He highlighted the government’s focus on MGMP, CM Elevate, and PRIME among other youth oriented schemes, which provide opportunities for artistes and entrepreneurs.

“Our focus has been on holistic education and in the past few years, we have ensured renovation, revamp and new building constructions for all government LP Schools, Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools,” he said.

Sangma said the Government has remained committed to ensure overall upgrade in infrastructure for educational institutes and new college infrastructure, including opening of new colleges were initiated by the government.

“Captain Williamson Sangma State University, the first state University is testimony of our government’s commitment to accord priority in education sector,” he added.

Underlining the government’s special initiative to boost sports infrastructure, he said, “We are building robust sports infrastructures across the State. In the run-up to National Games to be held in our state, we are preparing a plan to promote our sportspersons.”

“Next week, we are calling all sports associations to discuss interventions to support and finance our sportspersons preparing for national games,” he said.

The chief minister asserted that Meghalaya was selected to host National Games as Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is “aware of our state’s preparedness and capacity”.

“Our youth are our assets and we are doing our best to showcase, groom our talents, be it music or sports,” he added.

He also outlined the government’s initiatives, including implementing smart classrooms and technology-enabled learning across schools in the state.

He emphasised that the government’s policies are designed to strategically work towards the growth of the youth.
