Assam activates wartime protocols: CM imposes statewide emergency controls to back national defence

Guwahati, May 10: With the nation facing heightened tensions, the Assam government has triggered emergency protocols to reinforce India’s defence preparedness. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, following a special Cabinet meeting, unveiled a sweeping set of restrictions to prioritize operational readiness and demonstrate the state’s full backing to the national cause.

“All seminars, workshops, conferences, and commemorative events involving government spending are suspended. Foreign trips by ministers and officials are cancelled. Physical meetings are limited to essential services and shifted online wherever possible,” Sarma said during a press briefing.

The Chief Minister ordered a halt to all non-essential government activity. Official travel is restricted, and officers must stay within their assigned locations unless granted explicit permission to move. Emergency meetings will continue with minimal physical presence.

Strict Austerity Measures Enforced

All departments have been instructed to freeze procurement of vehicles, furniture, and office infrastructure. No new publicity materials, advertisements, or audio-visual content will be produced unless essential for public awareness. Working lunches, entertainment events, and ceremonial functions are barred until further notice.

Employee Readiness on High Alert

Government employees on leave—excluding maternity or medical cases—must remain reachable and report for duty within 24 hours if recalled. Departments and district offices must keep updated contact records of all personnel for immediate communication in case of emergency deployment.

Health Infrastructure on Standby

Hospitals across the state are reviewing fuel and medicine stocks to ensure they are prepared for crisis scenarios. A registry of voluntary blood donors, especially those with rare blood groups, is being updated to ensure rapid response capacity.

Military Support & Civic Coordination

District and state-level coordination teams are being activated to facilitate the smooth movement of defence convoys and logistics. Local administrations have been told to stay in regular touch with families of soldiers from Assam posted outside the state, offering reassurance and any needed support.

District Commissioners and Superintendents of Police have been instructed to tighten civil-police-emergency coordination to guarantee uninterrupted civic services throughout the period.

“Every department must reflect Assam’s unity, discipline, and commitment to the national interest,” Sarma said. “We are in mission mode, and every part of the administration must remain alert, efficient, and responsive.”
