Assam Assembly makes history: first-ever outstation budget session in Kokrajhar on Feb 17, Kota reviews preparedness

Guwahati, Feb 12: In a historic first, the Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) Budget Session 2025 will begin in Kokrajhar on February 17, marking the Assembly’s first-ever session held outside the state’s capital.

With just five days left, Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota on Wednesday conducted a comprehensive review of the preparations to ensure the seamless execution of this landmark event at the Bodoland Territorial Council Legislative Assembly (BTCLA) complex.

Apart from the opening session in Kokrajhar, all subsequent sessions of the Budget Session 2024 will return to the Assembly’s permanent complex in Dispur.

Chairing a high-level meeting, Chief Secretary Kota emphasized the need for meticulous planning and flawless execution, highlighting the historical significance of hosting an Assembly session outside the state capital for the first time.

He directed BTC Principal Secretary Akash Deep to oversee the finalization of all logistical arrangements in coordination with the line departments. Key focus areas include seating arrangements and catering services for legislators and dignitaries, uninterrupted power and water supply, fully functional sound system, emergency medical facilities and fire safety measures and traffic management and security deployment.

“This is a momentous occasion for Assam, and we must ensure flawless execution. Every department must work in synergy to provide a seamless experience for legislators and dignitaries,” Kota asserted.

The review meeting was attended by key officials, including BTC Principal Secretary Akash Deep, Kokrajhar District Commissioner Masanda M Pertin, Superintendent of Police Pushpraj Singh, and other senior officials from the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).

Following the meeting, Chief Secretary Kota, along with concerned officials, conducted a thorough inspection of the session hall, designated office chambers, and key locations at the BTCLA complex to ensure everything is in place for this historic Assembly session.
