Guwahati, Jan 30: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya inaugurated Project Yuva Bhagidari, an initiative led by the National Cadet Corps (NCC) North Eastern Region, at K.B.R. Auditorium, Cotton University, Guwahati on Thursday. The project aims to empower youth in advancing the Swachh Bharat Mission through structured community engagement and leadership training.
In his address, Governor Acharya highlighted NCC’s pivotal role in fostering unity, discipline, and patriotism among India’s youth since its inception in 1948. He emphasized that the organization not only shapes responsible citizens but also plays a crucial part in realizing the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and New India.
Expressing pride in Assam’s 47,000 NCC cadets (18,000 female and 29,000 male), Acharya lauded their dedication and commitment. He urged cadets to take on the role of cleanliness ambassadors, driving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan forward as a mass movement.
Designed by NCC Directorate, North Eastern Region, under NCC Group Headquarters Guwahati, Project Yuva Bhagidari is a well-structured, three-phase program aimed at training cadets to develop and implement strategic communication campaigns for cleanliness awareness, conducting social service and community development activities in alignment with the Swachh Bharat Mission and ensuring widespread impact through a cascading training model.
In the first phase, spanning 30 days, 60 selected cadets from eight colleges and universities in Guwahati will receive specialized training as Trailblazers (Trainers). They will then mentor and train more cadets during the second and third phases, each lasting 60 days with ten engagement days. This expansion model ensures that all NCC cadets under NCC Group Headquarters, Guwahati, will benefit from the initiative.
The event was graced by Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare Nandita Garlosa, Additional Director General, NCC Directorate North Eastern Region, Major General Gagan Deep, Vice-Chancellor of Cotton University Prof. Ramesh Chandra Deka, NCC Group Commander Brigadier A.K. Bora, and several other distinguished guests.
Acharya urged NCC cadets to lead the movement with enthusiasm and dedication, reinforcing the importance of youth in shaping a cleaner, healthier, and more developed India. He congratulated all participants for being part of this transformative initiative and called for united efforts to turn Project Yuva Bhagidari into a national model for community-driven change.
