NPP chief addresses campaign rally for party candidate at Boko
Shillong, April 6: NPP chief and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has termed the Assam assembly elections on April 9 a defining moment for regional unity and called for a unified voice of regional political parties from across North East.
“This election is the voice of the Northeast, a voice that will resonate from Boko-Chhaygaon (constituency),” he said while addressing a public rally at Bamunigaon under the constituency in Kamrup district on Monday.

The NPP chief also emphasised that the results would reflect whether the people of the region have united under a common vision.
The election campaign rally for National People’s Party (NPP) candidate Ganseng B Sangma was attended by several NPP leaders, including MLAs from Meghalaya and MDCs from Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
A sea of NPP supporters gathered at the rally to express solidarity with the party’s vision of a united North East, according to a press release.
Highlighting the party’s expansion, Conrad Sangma said the NPP is poised to open its account in Assam and fulfill the vision of its founder, PA Sangma, of building a strong and unified Northeast.

However, he criticised national parties for decades of divisive politics and called on voters to support a regional force that prioritises unity and inclusive growth.
Recalling his father’s legacy, Sangma shared how PA Sangma would travel long distances to address even the smallest gatherings with humility and respect.
He noted that such grassroots commitment forms the foundation of NPP’s growing presence across the region.
“The seed planted by PA Sangma in Meghalaya 14 years ago has now grown into a tree that shelters the entire Northeast,” he said.
“His dream of uniting all communities under one platform is becoming a reality,” he said.
Sangma urged voters to support Ganseng B Sangma, describing him as a sincere and dedicated leader who reflects the party’s commitment to inclusive development.
“If Ganseng becomes MLA, it will mark a new dawn for NPP in Assam,” he added.

Other NPP leaders who addressed the rally included Meghalaya’s senior MLA and former speaker and minister AT Mondal, NPP vice-president I Hemochandra Singh and Manipur NPP legislative party leader M Rameshwar Singh.
Meghalaya MLAs Sanjay Sangma, Marthon Sangma, Pongseng Marak, Rupert Momin, and Jim Sangma also attended the rally. All speakers reiterated the vision of a strong and united Northeast and called for a decisive mandate in favor of the party.
In his brief address, candidate Ganseng B Sangma pledged dedicated service to the people, stating, “I speak for one minute but work for twenty.”
