Assam Rifles pays tribute to soldier killed in Manipur

Shillong, Sept 23: The Assam Rifles on Monday paid solemn tributes to Nb Sub Shyam Gurung, who was killed during an ambush at Nambol Sabal Leikei, Bishnupur, Manipur on September 19, 2025. 

A wreath-laying ceremony was held in Shillong, where Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General Assam Rifles, laid a wreath and met the bereaved family, conveying heartfelt condolences on behalf of all ranks of Assam Rifles.

The ceremony was attended by family members, Assam Rifles personnel, and locals who gathered in large numbers to honour Gurung’s courage, valour, and selfless service to the nation. 

Following the ceremony, Gurung’s cremation was held at his residence in Shillong.

Gurung was killed in an ambush by unidentified armed groups in Manipur’s Bishnupur district while returning from flood relief operations in the Imphal Valley. 

The attack also left five other personnel injured.
