Guwahati, June 11: The Muslim Students Union of Assam (MSUA) on Wednesday voiced strong opposition to the Assam government’s ongoing “push back” policy, alleging that it is being used to harass innocent Muslims under the guise of detecting and deporting illegal foreigners.
MSUA president Jalal Uddin stated that while the organization supports the goal of a foreigner-free Assam as outlined in the Assam Accord, the current implementation of the policy has led to discrimination and unjust treatment of Muslim citizens. “We are ready to cooperate if the detection and deportation are done lawfully. But if the government acts on its own whims, we will launch vigorous protests,” Uddin warned.

Attempts by MSUA to protest at the district level have been repeatedly blocked by local administrations. As a result, the organization submitted memorandums to the President of India, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the United Nations through the Chenga Revenue Circle officer in Barpeta district.
The MSUA also condemned recent incidents involving the dumping of beef at Hindu religious sites, calling them acts of provocation. Uddin demanded a high-level investigation into the matter and urged both communities to maintain harmony. “Such acts should not affect the bond between Hindu and Muslim brothers,” he said.
In addition, the student body strongly criticized the eviction drives targeting Muslim settlers in various parts of the state. Uddin alleged that these drives are communal and carried out without offering rehabilitation. “The government must first provide settlement to the landless before launching any eviction,” he added.
