Tura, Oct 7: Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma on Wednesday said he was pleased with the preparations at Wangala A·dam ahead of the 50th Golden Jubilee of the 100 Drums Wangala Festival, scheduled from November 11 to 14.
Sangma reviewed the ongoing works and held discussions with officials from various line departments and festival organisers.

“The work is progressing at full speed,” Sangma said, adding that the preparations were being closely monitored.
He also said four Chief Ministers from the Northeast are expected to attend the festival this year. Wangala contingents from other states are also expected to participate.
However, Sangma said a contingent from Bangladesh would not be able to attend this year’s celebration.
Sangma was accompanied by West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Abraham T. Sangma, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jude Rangku T. Sangma and other government officials.

The festival is expected to be larger this year, with around 1,000 traditional A·chik drums expected to be played during the event.
The 50th Golden Jubilee is expected to bring together performers and cultural groups from across the region, with traditional music, dance and the distinctive sound of A·chik drums taking centre stage in Tura.
