Associate official language in new district

Shillong, Apr 9: The state cabinet has approved the amendment to Meghalaya State Language Act, 2005 for inclusion of the new Eastern West Khasi Hills district in the list of associate official languages.

The amendment was necessitated in view of the need for an associate official language for local communication and conduct of various exams.

In the case of Eastern West Khasi Hills, the associate official language will be Khasi.

The amendment was made just to include Eastern West Khasi Hills in the list, said chief minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday.
