Shillong, Aug 6: A special programme focused on raising awareness about the importance of breastfeeding for both mothers and children was held at Supercare Hospital on World Breastfeeding Day recently.
The hospital also launched a comprehensive guide on breastfeeding to empower mothers, families, and healthcare professionals with evidence-based information.
The breastfeeding guide, compiled by Dr Anamika Mall, Consultant Pediatrician and Neonatologist, is available in English and Khasi.
In his address as chief guest at the program, Dr RS Thangkhiew, Managing Director of Supercare Hospital, praised initiatives that bring breastfeeding awareness to the forefront of public attention, highlighting the importance of creating a breastfeeding-friendly culture in the community.
Meanwhile, Dr Mall emphasized the significance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months and the value of colostrum, describing it as “the baby’s first vaccine.”
The programme provided practical guidance on expressed breast milk, its safe storage, and how mothers can continue to provide optimal nutrition for their babies while balancing professional responsibilities.
The event marked a collaborative tie-up with the Nurses Initiative for Community Empowerment (NICE) and the Association of Nurse Executives India (ANEI), aligning with the hospital’s mission to promote community health and advance nursing leadership.
