Baghmara review meet: CM orders immediate measures on health and development issues

Baghmara, Jan 20: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has directed officials to take immediate steps to address manpower gaps and infrastructure requirements plaguing the health sector and other key development requirements of South Garo Hills during a review meeting at Baghmara Circuit House on Tuesday.

During the meeting, several key concerns of the district were flagged, including the non-joining of specialist doctors who were posted to Baghmara, the need for a post-operation ward, ambulance services, the acute shortage of water at the hospital, need for renovation of staff quarters, border fencing and security issues, compensation for land acquisition, and acquisition of land for the Baghmara Block Office and the Baghmara stadium.

In his interaction with officials and stakeholders, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma instructed the deputy commissioner and the health department to do the needful in ensuring uninterrupted healthcare services. The health department has been directed to ensure completion of the Post-Operation Ward at Baghmara Civil Hospital at the earliest, and the chief minister also said that sanctioning of an ambulance will be taken up at right earnest.

On land compensation issue, Conrad K Sangma announced that he would be moving the Union Ministry of Home Affairs regarding compensation for land that has not yet been released.

District officials have also been asked to resolve the issue of obtaining land for setting up of Baghmara Stadium.

The chief minister informed that the government would work closely with the community and explore all available options for obtaining land for the Baghmara Development Block which currently operates from a limited area outside the town.
