Ban on animal fights in East Jaintia Hills

Shillong, Feb 12: The District Magistrate of East Jaintia Hills Manish Kumar has prohibited bull fights and animal fights in the district, citing violations of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and a 2014 Supreme Court ruling against bull fighting.

The order, effective immediately, warns that any violations will be dealt with strictly under the law.

This decision follows repeated instances of such fights during fetes and festivals in the area.

“Any violation thereof shall be strictly dealt with as per legal provisions,” the order states.
