Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindfulness City delegation explores spiritual roots, tech ties in Assam

Guwahati, June 7: A nine-member delegation from Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) kicked off a six-day visit to Assam with a deep dive into the state’s spiritual and technological landscapes.

On the first day of their tour, the delegation visited the ancient Hayagriva Madhab Temple in Hajo, Kamrup district—one of the region’s most revered spiritual sites known for its cultural significance and interfaith heritage.

Later, the team toured the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, where they met with Director Prof. Devendra Jalihal and his team to explore avenues for technological collaboration between Bhutan and the premier Indian institution.

At the Centre for Nanotechnology, the delegation was introduced to IIT-G’s cutting-edge research, including the use of local materials like bamboo for structural applications and advancements in 3D printing of buildings—technologies that align with Bhutan’s sustainable and mindful development goals.

The delegation was accompanied by Jigme Thinlye Namgyal, Consul General of Bhutan in Guwahati, and Phurpa Tshering, Consul at the Royal Bhutanese Consulate General, Guwahati.

The Bhutanese team is scheduled to visit more sites and institutions across Assam in the coming days, strengthening the cultural and innovation-based ties between the two neighbours.
