BJP leader Kamal Dey found dead in Guwahati; murder or accident?

Guwahati, Jan 6: Kamal Dey, the president of the Jalukbari Mandal Committee of BJP, was found dead under mysterious circumstances near his residence in Shankar Nagar, Maligaon, early Monday morning, triggering public speculation about possible foul play.

The body of the BJP leader was found at around 3 am. Initially, there was widespread belief that he was murdered by miscreants while returning home late at night.

Sources revealed that Dey left his home around 2:30 am to drop a friend off at their house. The incident occurred on his return, around 2:47 am. Initially, there were suspicions that he had been attacked by miscreants, but police investigations point to a tragic accident.

However, Guwahati Police Commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta, after visiting the scene, stated that preliminary evidence points to an accidental death.

“We reviewed CCTV footage from the area, which shows that Dey fell off his Scooty after hitting a speed breaker at around 2:47 am,” Mahanta explained.

“He was taken to Swagat Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.”

Despite the findings, the public outcry and suspicion of foul play prompted authorities to involve the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a more in-depth investigation. “A CID probe has been initiated, and the exact cause of death will only be confirmed after the postmortem report is received,” Mahanta added.

The incident has sparked widespread discussions and concern among the public, with many awaiting further clarity on the circumstances surrounding the leader’s tragic death.
