BJP mocks Bhupen Borah’s 2026 prediction, says he should turn full-time astrologer

Guwahati, March 28: The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on Assam Pradesh Congress president Bhupen Kumar Borah after he predicted the defeat of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the BJP government in the 2026 elections.

Responding to Borah’s statement, Assam BJP’s chief spokesperson Manoj Baruah dismissed his remarks as “nothing more than political daydreaming.” He accused Borah of acting like an astrologer rather than a political leader, saying, “Bhupen Borah has consistently made bizarre predictions about the BJP and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. His remarks only reflect the Congress party’s increasing desperation.”

The BJP maintained that Borah’s statements stem from frustration over the BJP government’s growing popularity and its track record in governance. The party highlighted key achievements under the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led administration, including:

Promotion of Assam’s Indigenous Heritage: The BJP has emphasized its efforts in showcasing the rich cultural legacy of Assam, particularly that of indigenous communities and tea tribes, on a global platform.

Economic Growth and Investment: The party cited initiatives like Advantage Assam 2.0, which aims to attract investments worth ₹5 lakh crore to transform Assam’s economy, as a major factor unsettling opposition leaders.

The BJP claimed that Congress leaders, unable to counter the government’s progress with concrete policies, have resorted to making unrealistic predictions in an attempt to mislead the public. According to the BJP, Borah’s remarks indicate a loss of direction within the Congress party, which has failed to regain political ground in Assam.

Concluding its attack, the BJP sarcastically suggested that instead of indulging in political guesswork, Bhupen Borah should consider taking up astrology as a full-time profession. With the political atmosphere heating up ahead of the 2026 elections, this war of words signals an intensifying battle between the ruling party and the opposition in Assam.
