Guwahati, April 17: The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Guwahati Mahanagar unit, staged a strong protest on Thursday against what it called the “decades-long corruption” of the Indian National Congress, with a sharp focus on the recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) chargesheet filed against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case.

The protest, described as peaceful by organizers, began at the PHE Field in Hengrabari and concluded at the BJP District Office. Dozens of BJYM members marched with placards and slogans, calling for swift action and legal accountability against the top Congress leaders.

Addressing the protestors, Assam BJYM president Rakesh Das accused the Congress of systemic corruption, saying, “For decades, one family has looted India. The National Herald case is just the tip of the iceberg. This protest is not just political—it’s a public call for justice.”

Das said that the Congress party has repeatedly misused its position for personal enrichment, and the BJP’s youth wing will continue to expose and oppose such actions across the country.

The protest saw participation from senior party functionaries including BJYM Guwahati City District president Niharendra Sarma and ASTC vice chairman Pranab Jyoti Lakhar, along with dozens of karyakartas who chanted slogans demanding the arrest of the Gandhis and praised the ED’s efforts in investigating financial crimes.

In a post on social media, Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia criticized the Congress for what he called a campaign to malign the ED and shield its leadership. “The Congress is not only trying to cover up a scam worth crores in the National Herald case but is also attacking constitutional institutions like the ED to save one family,” Saikia wrote.

He appreciated the BJYM’s protest as a powerful public demonstration of awareness and resistance: “A huge protest was organized today to counter Congress’s misinformation and bring the truth to the people. The overwhelming public participation shows the country is no longer willing to stay silent in the face of corruption.”

Saikia went further to demand immediate arrests: “The Yuva Morcha has clearly demanded that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi be arrested and a time-bound investigation be conducted.”

The National Herald case involves allegations of financial misappropriation in the acquisition of assets of Associated Journals Ltd. (AJL), which published the National Herald newspaper. The ED has been probing whether funds were illegally diverted by Congress leaders for personal or party benefit. The latest chargesheet reportedly implicates both Sonia and Rahul Gandhi in the matter, intensifying political tensions ahead of upcoming elections.

BJYM leaders concluded the rally by vowing to continue their campaign until the “corrupt elements” in Indian politics are held accountable.
