Shillong, Jan 27: With the elections to autonomous district councils (ADCs) in Khasi and Jaintia Hills just a few weeks away, the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) has assured to resolve the boundary dispute with Assam by 2028.
Giving the assurance, NPP leader and cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Monday said the MDA government would ensure that the remaining six areas of difference would be resolved before 2028.
Of the 12 areas of difference along Meghalaya-Assam border, the two states have arrived at an agreement on Fatin Joseph Lakadong six areas while process for negotiations on the remaining six areas is under way.
“We assure that the border issue will be resolved before 2028,” she said while accompanying her husband and sitting MDC from Laitumkhrah-Malki, Fatin Joseph Lakadong, in filing his nomination papers.
Meanwhile, minister also assured of the government not making any move that may lead to land alienation and violation of Land Transfer Act in the state.
Giving the assurance, Lyngdoh urged the people of Khasi and Jaintia Hills not to be misled “baseless allegations” of the opposition parties.
Wishing not to get into any blame game, she made it clear by saying, “Land does not belong to only one party, it belongs to all of us.”
Admitting that the party had offended some people by claiming that it would be difficult for any party to form the new EC without support of the state government, the NPP leader, however, expressed confidence that NPP would get the support of its partners in KHADC and JHADC.
She, meanwhile, lauded her husband Fatin Joseph Lakadong for having worked hard and said, “He (Fantin) will continue to work hard. As a couple we will work hard.”
“The NPP has decided to refrain from mudslinging and that we will highlight all the good works done by the party,” she said.
