Call for prayer service to restore peace in Garo Hills

Shillong, March 11: A church organisation, Achik Baptist Dalgipa Krima No. IV, has called for holding a special prayer service in order to restore peace and harmony in Garo Hills region.

The organisation said main objective of the prayer service is to guide people towards the right path, eliminate hatred, and foster communal harmony in the region.

It said the prayer should be for those affected by the recent unrest as well as individuals and authorities actively engaged in efforts to restore peace and stability.

Meanwhile, the Mother’s Union, Tura has also appealed to the public to refrain from unlawful activities such as vandalism and other antisocial acts.

Such unlawful activities will not help achieve any positive outcome, it said.

Urging people to remain calm and work towards restoring peace, the Union said the authorities should be allowed to make necessary amendments regarding the rules governing who can contest the elections.

“Violence will not help achieve anything,” the union stated, adding that as mothers they wish to see lasting peace in Garo Hills and hope for a future where their children can prosper.

The organisation expressed hope that the public will heed their appeal and work collectively towards maintaining peace and harmony in the region.
