Shillong, Jan 15: The discussions to resolve inter-state boundary dispute between Meghalaya and Assam will resume after the upcoming assembly elections in the neighbouring state, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said on Thursday.
“Elections are around the corner, so politically speaking, the current dispensation there (in Assam) and the government is not in a position to engage right now,” Sangma told reporters.
The second phase of border talks aims at resolving the remaining six areas of difference between the two states, building on the progress made in 2022 when they signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to settle six points of dispute.
“Once the elections are over then we will move forward again and continue the process,” the CM assured.
