
Importance of strengthening BSF’s ties with border communities
Shillong, June 1: BSF Eastern Command additional director general Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal has reviewed operational preparedness and security measures along India-Bangladesh international border in Meghalaya sector.
The ADG during his four-day visit inspected several border outposts (BOPs) in West Jaintia Hills and East Khasi Hills districts.
While interacting with the BSF personnel deployed on the frontier, he acknowledged their dedication and commendable service under challenging terrain and weather conditions.
He reviewed the measures taken to prevent illegal infiltration and exfiltration, and appreciated the force’s success in curbing cross-border activities.
BSF Meghalaya Frontier inspector general OP Upadhyay briefed the ADG on the prevailing border situation, recent anti-smuggling operations, deployment strategies, and coordination efforts with local authorities.

During his address to officers of BSF Frontier Meghalaya, the ADG emphasised the importance of maintaining high morale, constant vigilance, and professionalism.
He also highlighted the critical role of civic action programmes in strengthening ties with border communities.
Meanwhile, the ADG held meetings with senior officials of the civil and police administration to enhance inter-agency coordination and ensure seamless security management in the region.
During a courtesy call on Meghalaya governor CH Vijayashankar at Raj Bhavan, Shillong, the ADG briefed the latter on the current security scenario along Indo-Bangla border and the proactive steps taken by the BSF to safeguard national interests.
In a meeting with state chief secretary DP Wahlang, they discussed matters related to border management, BSF-civil administration cooperation, and the support extended by state agencies in BSF operations.
The BSF reiterated its unwavering commitment to securing India’s borders and contributing to the development and well-being of border community.
