BSF seizes cosmetics worth ₹50 lakh

Shillong, Jan 26: A consignment of cosmetic items worth nearly ₹50 lakh was intercepted on Friday evening by BSF personnel at Nayabazar near India-Bangladesh border in East Khasi Hills district.

The cosmetic products, meant for smuggling into Bangladesh, were concealed in a jungle area close to unfenced patches of the border, the BSF said.

Smugglers take the cover of darkness to smuggle things into Bangladesh through such unfenced portions of the border.

The cheap cosmetic products have high demand in Bangladesh that drives smuggling across the border.

The seized items have been handed over to Customs office at Pynursla, the BSF said.

Meanwhile, the frontier force has urged residents of border areas to report any suspicious activities to local authorities and continue supporting efforts to maintain peace and security.
