Shillong, Oct 13: The state cabinet on Tuesday cleared an amendment to the Meghalaya Cooperative Societies Act, 2015.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the amendment involves changing a single word in Section 21 (1) of the Act, from “registered post” to “speed post”.
“It is a small word nomenclature change,” Sangma said.
He said the move follows an advisory from the Centre. “The postal department, Government of India has asked all state governments to amend this particular word in the Act. Registered post is an old concept and speed post is now the new concept,” he said.
The cabinet also approved the list of government holidays for 2027, which the chief minister said remains unchanged from last year.
