Camp renews hope for PwDs

Shillong, Dec 12: More than 50 persons with disabilities (PwDs) participated in a registration-cum-counselling camp to raise awareness on various schemes and support provided by both the state and central governments in Jowai on Tuesday.

During the question and answer session, several participants shared their thoughts and queries. 

Kelvin Suting, who is visually-impaired, expressed that he had learned a lot from the camp while another attendee, Bisharlang Tariang said he plans to avail the opportunities provided by the government to enhance the business he has already started.

Meanwhile, Ngalong Sukhlain, who has no lower limbs but works as a mobile phone repair mechanic, said he will seek assistance from the organisation to start his own mobile phone repair unit.

The meeting held at H K Singh Memorial School,was chaired by Dr H H Mohrmen, secretary, SURE, who also helped in the translation.

The event was jointly organised by the National Career Service Centre for Differently-Abled (NCSC-DA) and the Society for Urban and Rural Empowerment (SURE).
