Cash seizures in Gambegre touch 1.79 Lakh from two incidents

Tura, Nov 23: Attempts at alleged distribution of cash to woo voters of Gambegre ahead of November 13 elections has touched Rs. 1.79 lakh after election monitoring teams seized unaccounted money from two vehicles, allegedly belonging to the opposition All India Trinamool Congress, amounting to Rs 1,79,621/- on the night before polling took place.

The first seizure took around 8:30 PM when a Mahindra Bolero ML-08-J-5521 was found with cash amounting to Rs 58,500/- during checking at Rimrangpara junction. A polling agent of AlTC Emuel Sangma of Darenggre, and driver Sengchang Sangma of Garobadha, were found in possession of the money.

On the same night, five hours later, another Bolero AS-01-FP1228 was intercepted at Amongpara village around 1:30 AM with three occupants, Sairil D Marak of Rimrangpara,  Suraj Ch Marak of Ampati and Ruth Ch Momin. From their possession election teams confiscated Rs.1,21,121/-.

These seizures have been the highest in an assembly bypoll in Garo Hills in recent times.
