Curfew imposed in West Garo Hills for 48 hours

Tura, March 10: The District Magistrate of West Garo Hills, Vibhor Aggarwal, has imposed a 48-hour curfew across the district under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to prevent any disturbance to public peace and maintain law and order.

According to the order issued by the District Magistrate, the curfew has come into force from 12:00 AM on 11th March 2026, and remain in effect until 12:00 AM on 13 March, 2026. During this period, no person shall move outside their residence within the jurisdiction of West Garo Hills district.

The order stated that the decision was taken following reports indicating a likelihood of disturbances that could endanger human life and property, making immediate preventive action necessary to maintain public tranquility.

However, exemptions have been granted to police, armed forces and security personnel on duty, magistrates and government officials on official duty, and medical personnel including ambulances and emergency services.

All government institutions, offices, schools, colleges, universities, banks, shops and other establishments will remain closed during the curfew period.
