Centre monitoring NEHU crisis: Union Minister

Shillong, Feb 26: Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar on Wednesday said that the ministry is keeping a close watch on North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) and has assured to resolve the ongoing crisis.

“We are keeping a watch and I hope we will be able to minimize the problems faced by the students. Students are the pivotal part of any institution and so our ministry is in touch with the administration and we will be able to sort out things very soon,” said the union minister.

The union minister however ruled out the possibility of the ministry’s involvement in replacing the VC since NEHU is an autonomous university..

“However, the government of India is always in touch with the officials (and the administration of the university),” he added.
