CGHS won’t apply in serious ailments of Govt employees

Shillong, Feb 28: The state government has taken a significant initiative to address concerns regarding medical reimbursement for government employees by amending the Meghalaya Medical Attendance Rules 2021.

A large number of employees has been facing issues while following Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) criteria for almost all kinds of ailments and treatments, chief minister Conrad K Sangma told reporters on Wednesday.

Hence, there was assessment that was done by the department, which has proposed the need to classify the different ailments into different categories.

He said either CGHS or MHIS rates will apply for common diseases former will not apply anymore in more serious ailments and life threatening cases, Sangma said.

The cabinet has decided on clearing 100% of the bill amount without needing any prior approval at government level, he said.

“DHS (MI) will be given the powers to take the decision so that the process of reimbursement in paying of bills especially in life threatening cases is done without any hustle and on time so that the government employees can get the support as in when they needed,” the chief minister said.

CGHS rates are not enough for such treatment, he said.

“Also, procedures have been streamlined…certain formats have to be followed in a very simple way where the inputs that will come from the hospitals will be taken so that the process is made much smoother,” he added.
