Cleaner Meghalaya among CM’s New Year resolutions

Shillong, Jan 15: Declaring the government’s vision to enhance overall cleanliness, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has declared that cleanliness and sanitation across the state will be prioritised in the year 2026.

“I am very very determined this year to really focus on sanitation and cleanliness in the state as a whole,” he said, emphasizing the importance of presenting a clean and civic-minded image, especially with the National Games approaching.

Underlining the need for the visitors to have a better impression about the towns of Meghalaya, he said, “When people come, they should look at Shillong, Tura, Jowai and the state as a whole in a very clean and civic sense and all those aspects is something I really want to do. So, we will align all our actions, and our resources and also the stakeholders to work in a much more dedicated manner in a much more detailed manner to try and move closer to that goal. I know it will not be so easy, but we will do that.”

Sangma also highlighted his commitment to resolving long-standing issues, such as the situation of ad hoc and SSA teachers.

“I have always been wanting to find a solution to this entire situation… I am happy that we were able to resolve that last year, we came to a conclusion right at the end of the year,” he said, adding that implementation of the pay structure for over 23,000 ad hoc and SSA teachers would take place in April.

The Chief Minister also cited the resolution of scholarship issues, crediting discussions with the Government of India. “Scholarship was an issue… we managed to speak to the Government of India and resolve it,” he said, emphasizing his focus on addressing pressing concerns and finding solutions.
