Cleaning drive at Umiam lake

Shillong, Sept 30: The Headquarters Research and Development Establishment, Shillong, organised a Swachhata Hi Seva campaign on Sunday where officers and personnel of the R&D Estt (BRO) enthusiastically participated at the cleaning drive.


Armed with gloves, garbage bags, and cleaning tools, participants diligently worked
to remove litter, plastic waste, and other debris early in the morning at the
picturesque Umiam Lake, a popular tourist destination and a crucial water reservoir
for the region.


Rajeev Dua, Chief Engineer emphasised the importance of maintaining cleanliness
in public spaces and the role of each individual in contributing to a cleaner
environment. He highlighted that such initiatives not only enhance the beauty of the
surroundings but also play a significant role in promoting public health and
well-being.


Officers and personnel were divided into teams, each assigned specific areas
around the lake and its vicinity.Dua said the execution of the campaign at Umiam stands as a testament to the collective effort and dedication of the GREF officers and personnel and serves as an inspiring example for other organizations and communities to follow, reinforcing the message that cleanliness is indeed next to godliness.
