‘Clear message of confidence on MDA Govt’

Shillong Sep 5: Chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday sought to refute allegations of poaching MLAs from the Opposition, saying, “I am humbled by their trust on the government and on the party. It is nothing but a clear message of their confidence in this government.”

With the recent merger of three Congress legislators with the National People’s Party (NPP), the strength of ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) in the 60-member assembly shot up to 45.

“Most of the coalition partners are very committed to the coalition and we are also equally committed to them,” he added.

On opposition leader Mukul Sangma’s allegation that NPP leadership could not trust its MLAs and hence poaching other MLAs, he said the MLAs had issues within their own political parties and they took the decision to let their constituency people benefit from the growth story of this government.
