CM calls for using ‘1971’ to seek grievance redressal

90% power-related complaints resolved through 1971 helpline

Shillong, Sep 10: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has urged the citizens to lodge their grievances through the CM-Connect helpline 1971, which remains active from 8 am to 8 pm.

“I urge members that 1971 is the number and anybody can call and put your grievances and enquire about government schemes. We are working towards making this available at the national level (where people can) dail the code 0364 and dail 1971,” Sangma told the Assembly on Wednesday.

Assuring that the government will continue to work towards improving services, he said the idea was to create a system like 911 in the US.

He asserted that 1971 is a robust online grievance redressal system and that it has received thousands of calls with over 1,000 related to power department alone.

Ninety per cent of the power-related complaints have been resolved, with most issues related to power outages and transformer breakdowns, he said.

He also informed that the complaints can be lodged in regional and local languages and Joint Secretary in-charge is the nodal officer, and all complaints are monitored by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

“The system is data-based and connected with all departments, ensuring timely resolution of complaints,” he said.

The CMO has ensured that information is sent immediately to the concerned person, facilitating prompt resolution.
