Shillong, Nov 17: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday launched a network of CCTVs and a beautification project for Mawlai Mawroh locality in the city.
So far, 25 localities have been covered under the CCTV installation project in the first phase.
Inaugurating the CCTV system, the Chief Minister said, “Today we are inaugurating the CCTV system and out of the 45 localities that are shortlisted in the first phase, about 25 localities have been completed and the other 20 locations will be completed soon.”
On the city beautification drive launched at Mawlai Mawroh, he said it is a continuation of the government efforts through the Urban Affairs department and the municipalities to make the cities and towns of the state clean, green, safe and beautiful.
“I am happy to see that our efforts are moving in the right direction with the active participation of the communities and localities,” he said.

He also mentioned about the demand for installation of CCTVs in various localities during meetings between government authorities and local stakeholders.
He also informed that installation of CCTVs and street lights is a continuous process and more locations will be taken up in the second phase.
Further, the Chief Minister underlined the importance of cohesion between communities and the government to bring about a visible and tangible transformation.
“There is nothing such as a small or a big development project and even the smallest change that we make can make a big difference and impact in the overall process of development,” he said.
During an open interaction, the Chief Minister was appraised of the need for street lights, CCTVs, parking spaces, footpaths for pedestrians, water supply, clogged drains, etc.
He also distributed Beautification Grants to various localities.
