Shillong, July 21: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday reviewed the progress of ongoing and proposed Meghalaya House projects across the country and emphasised their timely completion, better management and improved facilities.
He assessed the construction, expansion and operational status of Meghalaya Houses in Delhi, Noida, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Vellore and Kolkata, during a virtual meeting with the Minister in-charge General Administration Department (GAD) and senior officials.
Meghalaya Houses are a common place for stay for thousands of Meghalaya residents travelling outside the state for education, medical treatment or official work and there are growing demand for more such accommodations in major cities of the country.
The Chief Minister directed officials to adhere to project timelines while maintaining quality standards and ensuring the facilities are equipped to meet the increasing needs of Meghalaya residents travelling outside the state.
The review focused on infrastructure development, service delivery and the functioning of existing facilities.
It also discussed measures to strengthen the management of Meghalaya Houses, which provide accommodation and support to students, patients seeking medical treatment, government officials and other citizens.
Earlier this year, the state also introduced an online booking system for Meghalaya Houses, making reservations and payments digital in a move aimed at improving accessibility and visitor convenience.
Emphasising that Meghalaya Houses should continue to serve as a “home away from home” for the people of the state, the Chief Minister asked officials to closely monitor project implementation and expedite pending works.
The review reflects the state government’s continued push to expand and modernise Meghalaya House infrastructure across major Indian cities, ensuring that Meghalaya residents have reliable accommodation and support services whenever they travel beyond the state.
