NPP pins hope on James to raise state issues in House

Shillong, July 21: The National People’s Party (NPP) has pinned hope on its leader James PK Sangma, who took oath as Rajya Sabha member, for strongly raising the issues related to Meghalaya in the Parliament.

“We are expecting positively from him because he has very good knowledge of our state and can express himself very well in Parliament,” NPP state working president and cabinet minister Marcuise N Marak said on Tuesday.

James Sangma, also the national working president of the party, took oath as the state’s lone member in the Upper House of the Parliament on Monday.

Pointing at Sangma’s language proficiency, he said, “He can speak Hindi fluently and also speaks English well. That will help him raise our concerns effectively.”

The minister listed issues such as Inner Line Permit (ILP), inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in 8th Schedule among others for James Sangma to be raised in the Parliament.
