CM ‘shocked’, orders thorough probe

Shillong, Sept 15: Chief minister Conrad K Sangma has expressed his deep anguish and ordered a thorough police investigation into the shocking alleged murder of a four-year-old girl at Nongrah here.

“Deeply anguished to learn about the tragic death of 4-year-old Insaphira Lyngdoh Mawnai, who went missing from her residence in Nongrah early yesterday morning. Her mortal remains were recovered today under circumstances suggesting a suspected homicide. Have directed @MeghalayaPolice to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice without delay,” Sangma said on Monday in his post on X.

Expressing his condolence to the girl’s family, he said, “I extend my deepest condolences to her parents and her loved ones.”

The little girl was reportedly went missing from her residence at Nongrah Nonglum on Sunday morning while her parents were still sleeping.

On Monday morning, her body was recovered from a waterlogged pit inside an under-construction house near her residence.
