COMSO on ‘inspection drive’ at infiltration check posts

Individuals ‘lacking papers’ sent back at Ratacherra check post

Shillong, June 30: Members of the Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organization (COMSO), as part of its drive to conduct “inspection” at all infiltration check posts, on Monday visited Ratacherra infiltration check post in East Jaintia Hills district.

While verifying the process of individuals passing through the gate, the COMSO members sent back some individuals “due to lack of proper documentation”.

COMSO said the inspection was aimed at ensuring adequate measures to verify documents of individuals entering the state, thereby preventing unauthorised outsiders from entering Meghalaya.

The team led by COMSO Jaintia Hills Region vice-chairman Sambormi Lyngdoh comprised members from various organisations, including Hyniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), Jaintia Students’ Movement (JSM), and Jaintia National Council (JNC).

Lyngdoh said this is just the beginning, and “primary measures” to address influx will be implemented in the future.

According to COMSO, in a meeting held on June 21 the organisation passed a resolution to review all infiltration check posts across the state.

COMSO is among several orgnisations in Meghalaya demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) system to regulate entry of outsiders into the state.
