Conrad assures funds for engineering college

Shillong, May 19: Chief minister Conrad K Sangma has assured of arranging funds for infrastructure upgrade and research in the Shillong Government College of Engineering.

During his visit to the state’s first government engineering college on Monday, the chief minister inspected the college building and held consultations with faculty members to take stock of their requirements.

He was accompanied by officials from the Education department and Shillong Polytechnic College.

Shillong Government College of Engineering recently received the approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for starting undergraduate courses in Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering for 2025-26 academic session.

Interacting with the faculty members, he assured that all concerns will be addressed to upscale the infrastructure for making the college operational as mandated by AICTE.

The faculty members, meanwhile, urged the chief minister to sanction funds for research in the field of science and technology.

While assuring of necessary funds, the chief minister said the Chief Minister’s Research Fellowship (CMRF) currently funds research in arts and culture, which will be expanded to accommodate research in the science and technology as well.

Located at Mawlai Kynton Massar, the engineering college affiliated to North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) will start the two undergraduate programs — Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering – with an initial intake of 30 students each for 2025-26 academic session.
