Contest to promote rock music in Garo Hills

Tura, Dec 7: The presence of international rock band Europe at the recent Me’gong Festival in Jengjal has galvanished music lovers- read rock music lovers, to spread its influence far and wide and keeping this momentum alive, a rock contest aptly called “Rock Under The Sun” BEAT contest is being organised on the 19th and 20th of December at Asanang field in Rongram, 15 kms from Tura.

“The contest is being organized for the youth to promote Rock culture for unity and diversity. With the emerging challenges from pop and hip hop music taking center stage, Rock and Roll music is taking a back seat with youngsters disbanding the Rock music scenario. So we are keen to promote Rock music and Rock Bands so that youngsters pick up their guitars and drums and unite for one cause and imbibe this path of exciting journey,” says Bruno A Sangma, vocalist of local rock band Blind Creed ( formerly Eye2Eye) and member of Garo Hills Rock FEST management Society Tura.

The Society has been formed by a group of rock bands, namely BLIND CREED, FLAMES OF REVOLUTION, RICHROCKER and others with the support from the district administration and other entrepreneurs like Fantas music shillong, Gastronomic garden, Sam Studio, A.timbo Resort, powerlite, among others.

Cash incentives and certificates are also being awarded to the winners of the contest.
The winner gets Rs 50,000, 2nd gets Rs 30,000, 3rd gets Rs 20,000. The Best vocalist gets Rs10000, Best lead guitarist Rs10000, Best bassist Rs 10000, Best Drummer 10000.
