Tura, Sept 22: Narcotic substance suspected to be cocaine contraband has been seized from two travelers coming in from Assam into the plain belt region of West Garo Hills.
Police flagged down a Maruti Celerio car with an Assam registration at Kokaimari village, under Phulbari police station, two days ago. The vehicle had five occupants, including a woman and a child, and during search was found hidden beneath the back seat of one of the occupants five soap cases containing suspected heroin that weighed 53.67 grams.
During questioning it was made known that the substance was collected from the ISBT in Guwahati and was to be delivered to one Fazadur from Gomaijhora village in the Phulbari region.
Among the passengers two were identified to be involved in the smuggling of the contraband and taken into custody. The accused are Sahidur Islam (32) of Pushkinipara village, Bholarbhita, Phulbari and Nazim Uddin Laskar (39). Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities relating to drug trafficking or abuse.
