Contrabands worth ₹61 lakh seized on border

Shillong, Mar 2: BSF troops have thwarted multiple smuggling attempts along Meghalaya’s international border with Bangladesh, leading to seizure of contraband items worth over ₹61 lakh.

In a joint operation with Meghalaya Police, troops of 144 Bn BSF Meghalaya intercepted a major smuggling attempt in South Garo Hills, seizing miscellaneous contraband worth over ₹41 lakh.

In another operation, the BSF troops seized a significant cache of smuggled goods worth more than ₹20 lakh in West Jaintia Hills near the Indo-Bangla border.

The items, intended for smuggling to Bangladesh, were cleverly concealed in dense jungle areas near the international border.

“Acting on credible intelligence inputs, BSF Meghalaya personnel conducted these strategic operations, successfully preventing the unlawful movement of goods across the border,” the BSF said in a statement.
