Corridor to link Administrative City and Knowledge City in NST

Shillong, Nov 14: The state government has decided to acquire additional 35 acres of land in New Shillong Township (NST) to create a corridor to connect the proposed Administrative City and the Knowledge City.

This area will also host the new central jail, which is slated to replace the existing facility in Shillong.

Price of the land to be acquired ranges between Rs 250 per sq ft and Rs 2,691 per sq m, comfortably below the Deputy Commissioner’s notified rate of Rs 2,900 per sq m, said cabinet minister Wailadmiki Shylla after a cabinet meeting on Friday.

He said the process of acquisition is already under way, and construction of the jail will commence once land possession is secured.

The move is part of the New Shillong Township development plan, which envisions a series of integrated projects—including administrative and knowledge hubs—to decongest the capital and spur regional growth.
