CPC demands action over church attacks during Christmas

Shillong, Dec 29: The Central Puja Committee (CPC) has demanded the Meghalaya and Assam governments to take action against culprits involved in the recent spate of attacks on churches and followers of the Christian faith in Nalbari (Assam), Chhattisgarh, and other parts of the country during the Christmas celebrations.

In a statement issued on Sunday, CPC president N Bhattacharjee strongly condemned the incidents, describing them as acts perpetrated by radical elements aimed at creating division among different religions and faiths in the country.

“The CPC, Meghalaya strongly condemns such incidents perpetuated by radical elements,” Bhattacharjee stated.

He also demanded both state governments of Meghalaya and Assam to apprehend all the culprits and initiate stringent, exemplary action against all such unruly individuals and organisations, engaged in the heinous crime.

“(We) urge both the state governments to immediately apprehend all the culprits and initiate stringent, exemplary action against all such unruly individuals and organisations, engaged in the heinous crime, with the agenda to create division among different religion and faith in the country.”
