Cultural procession showcasing Braj folk traditions taken out in Mathura

Mathura (UP), Sep 3: A grand cultural procession showcasing the folk traditions of Braj and various regions of the country was taken out here on Thursday as part of the ongoing ‘Shri Krishna Janmotsav 2026’ celebrations.

The procession, organised under the aegis of the Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad, began from the main gate of Shri Krishna Janmasthan and was inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane Development Minister Chaudhary Laxmi Narayan.

The procession featured colourful performances by artistes dressed in traditional costumes, with flute melodies, drums and devotional chants creating a festive atmosphere.

Mayur (peacock) dance was among the major attractions, while artistes also performed Rajasthani Gujari dance and traditional acts featuring characters such as bears and langurs.

The performance of snake charmers with the melodious strains of the ‘been’ also drew crowds.

The procession passed through Potra Kund, Govind Nagar and Deeg Gate before returning to the Shri Krishna Janmasthan.

Local residents and devotees welcomed the procession along the route, showering flowers on the artistes.

Different groups of artistes presented glimpses of traditional Braj folk arts and the region’s cultural heritage, with devotional songs dedicated to Radha and Krishna and folk instruments adding to the festive atmosphere.

Chants of “Radhe Radhe” and “Jai Shri Krishna” reverberated along the entire route as music, dance, devotion and folk traditions came together to add colour to the second day of the Shri Krishna Janmotsav celebrations.

Mathura District Magistrate Chandraprakash Singh and Shri Krishna Janmasthan Seva Sansthan secretary Kapil Sharma accompanied the procession and encouraged the folk artistes. (PTI)
