Daniel Syiem bags ‘Iconic Trailblazer in Regional Couture’ award

Shillong, May 12: Meghalaya designer Daniel Syiem was conferred the “Iconic Trailblazer in Regional Couture” award at the Oriflame Presents WhosNext2026 Influencer Awards – East & Northeast Edition, held in Kolkata. 

The awards, organised by Whosthat360 and presented by Oriflame India, honoured creators, artists, and changemakers from across Eastern and Northeastern India. Meghalaya Tourism was the Associate Partner for the event. 

Syiem, known for weaving indigenous textiles and narratives into contemporary fashion, has emerged as a key cultural voice from the North East on national and international platforms.

His work has focused on showcasing the region’s heritage and craftsmanship while empowering local artisans. 

Accepting the award, an emotional Syiem reflected on his journey from the hills of Meghalaya. 

“It is truly an honour to receive the Iconic Trailblazer in Regional Couture Award. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the team at Whosthat360 for this recognition,” he said. 

“My journey began as a boy from the hills, carrying big dreams—to share the stories of my people through fashion. Standing here today, I feel incredibly blessed to be living that dream,” he added. 

“None of this would have been possible without God’s grace and guidance. I am equally grateful for my unwavering support system—my family, friends, well-wishers, and my team, who have always been my backbone. This achievement belongs to all of you. God bless,” Syiem said.
